Cystometric study of bladder sensitivity

abstract_textpStudy of bladder sensitivity during filling cystometry is part of the work-up for lower urinary tract dysfunction. The assessment of normal bladder sensation relies on the perception of three defined points noted during filling cystometry with the standard method according to the International Continence Society (ICS), or with a continuous measurement using a visual analogue scale (VAS). The values of the various sensations using standard method must be expressed in percentage of the maximum cystometric capacity. The distinct sensations with the standard method are in fact a single sensation of a desire to void that increases continually during filling. Other studies based on VAS should allow validating the criteria of normality, in order to understand better bladder sensations at nonneurologic and neurologic subjects and in pharmacological studies./p/abstract_text
