福岡県における竹林資源と竹林産物生産の史的特性 一大正時代を中心とした孟宗竹文化の発展期への変動一

At present, there are large Moso bamboo {Phyllostachys pubescens) forests in Fukuoka prefecture. However, it is not clear how Moso bamboo was cultivated historically and what was produced from the bamboo. In Fukuoka the time around the Taisho period is believed to be important, because the cultivation of bamboo forest and the production of goods from bamboo, such as bamboo timber and bamboo shoots, were active then. Therefore, this study clarified the history of bamboo forest resources and the production of goods from bamboo during this period in Fukuoka prefecture. The study identified a stage when Madake {Phyllostachys bambusoides) culture was active, and when Madake forest resources were important, and this bamboo was cut to produce timber and manufactured goods. During this time, the Moso bamboo culture began to be developed as the inhabitants improved the Moso bamboo forest, and the production of bamboo shoots and new ways of utilizing Moso bamboo timber increased. The central factor in the utilization of bamboo forest resources was the step-by-step change from Madake to Moso bamboo, i.e., a change in the major species supporting bamboo culture. In conclusion, this study examined the shift in bamboo culture from the perspective of the character of bamboo forest resources and the production of goods from bamboo, and clarified how this shift in culture was related to bamboo species.
