In the past ten years, a range of excellent generic first-year level text books have been published which have been extremely appealing to both students and instructors as they contain colour illustrations and photographs, and also contain a wide variety of online services, such as animations and illustrations that can be incorporated into lectures, or used for self-study by students. However, until now, few text books of such appeal have been published which cater for more advanced undergraduate courses, such as structural geology. The new structural geology text book by Haakon Fossen fills this gap and, as such, should appeal to both students and instructors.
