You probably won't see Hamish Kimmins, Brad Seely and Clive Welham working their way down the red carpet at the Academy Awards any time soon, but their rendition of a "movie" is turning out to be a growing hit with foresters and other silviculture specialists around the globe. Kimmins is Canada Research Chair for Modeling the Sustainability of Forest Ecosystems, and a professor of forest ecology within the Department of Forest Sciences and the Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Seely and Welham are research associates with the Forest Ecosystem Management Simulation Group at UBC. The trio has been developing a new software program called Local Landscape Ecosystem Management Simulator, or LLEMS for short.
