摘要

Argue if you like about what's fair or possible, but here's where there's no room for dispute: There are immense upward pressures on log hauling rates, and in many cases the factors are out of our control. The winter log haul was interrupted by two separate trucker strikes over the past few months - one in northeastern Ontario and another in the BC Interior. In both cases, rates were the primary issue, but the BC truckers also raised concerns about working conditions and safety. Regardless, a clear message has been sent and forest companies need to take note, because it appears the strikes of 2004/2005 might be a precursor of things to come.
