They're young, they're ambitious, and they could be called "a new breed of logger." As partners in Crofton, BC-based Alternative Forest Operations Ltd., Bridget Schmidt, 22, and Jason Kemmler, 23, are taking on jobs that other loggers don't want to do - and loving it. This includes single stemlogging and wind firming, both of which require the agility to climb trees with a chain saw in hand, and, in some cases, swing from tree to tree without touching the ground for hours at a time. Sig Kemmler, who is Jason's father and the third partner inthe business, prefers to keep both feet on the ground.
