Reg Potvin hauls a range of logs and wood products to a variety of locations all year round. But whether he's hauling lumber with varying moisture contents, hardwood logs of different species and densities, or an unknown amount of stowaway snow and ice, there's one thing he's sure of: He's hauling his full legal payload, and nothing more. The hauler from Kapuskasing, ON, knows this because for the past 10 months he has been using a new weight sensor system from Nova Scotia-based TruckWeight. The system is based on sensors mounted to the frame of the tractor or trailer, and tied into the air suspension line. These read pressure changes in the suspension lines, and send weight information to a trucker's handheld receiver/remote. According to TruckWeight, the system is accurate to within 0.5% of GVW.
