Hodgson's Chipping tests two of Tigercat's new 18-tonne 1065 forwarders in its three-phase CTL system, and both owner and operators are pleased with the results. Even as you pull up to the service garage of Hodgson's Chipping near Truro, N.S., in lateMatch, you know it's a substantial contracting operation. CFI was on-site to take a look at a couple of Tiger-cat's 1014 (now called 1065) 18-tonne forwarders in action, but with an operation like this, it's hard to focus on one thing. The garage itselfis a good size, probably big enough to hold six or seven feller-bunchers if you packed them in. The yard is full of gear: feller-bunchers, grapple skidders, two delimber debarker chippers (DDCs), trucks, service vans and other assorted machines. It is spring breakup, a time when the bush roads turn into a sea of mud, and forest operations grind to a halt.
