UREA: As farm demand finally surfaced, granular urea has become tight, with prices firming to ?380-390 pt fot in big bags Ravenna (roughly $460-474 pt cfr in bulk). Granular urea prices have probably firmed ?10-15 pt over the past two weeks, as wholesalers see strong demand from the retail level. The buyers are balking at paying more than ?380 pt but wholesalers with tonnage don’t want to let it go below ?390pt, because there is hardly any spot prompt replacement tonnage available, and they know the buyers want it for arrival by mid Feb. Yara is now considering asking for ?410 pt fot big bags, but has a backlog of deliveries to execute before this tonnage could become available, perhaps 10-15 Feb. The big problem this week in Italy is the week-long strike by truck drivers, so nothing is moving.
