Soybean Meal, Distillers Grains Replace Fishmeal In Experimental Shrimp Diets

Distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) could be used as a protein source for shrimp due to their nutrient content, relatively low cost and lack of anti-nutritional factors. A study that used DDGS to partially replace soybean meal as the primaryprotein source in diets for juvenile white shrimp found the growth of shrimp significantly decreased when DDGS replaced soybean meal. Feed-conversion ratios were also significantly higher in the treatments using DDGS. Reduced pellet stability could havecontributed to the reduced growth.
