The authors explain how DaimlerChrysler makes use of a neutral approach,which targets the data exchange between the widely distributed DaimlerChrysler AG sites for Commercial Vehicle Development.The solution presents STEP AP214-CC8 (ISO 10303-214) as a suitable neutral data format for the data exchange in a globally operating company.The text also illustrates how the deployment of formally described Web services can automate the data exchange process to a great extent.The solution described has been realized in the form of an initial demonstrator with implementation of the concept in production in the pipeline.
