On the overwintering ability of Liriomyza huidobrensis outdoors.

In 1995 Liriomyza huidobrensis was found for the first time in vegetable crops outdoors in the region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. The crops (lettuces and celery) had extreme damage to the leaves because of mass infestation with leaf miners.The ability to survive under the regional climatic conditions was investigated. None of the stages of the leaf miner survived during the winter of 1995/96, one of the coldest winters in that region. No stages of L. huidobrensis were found in the previously infested field in spring 1996.
