The 35th International Geological Congress, Cape Town 2016: Its origins and the American contribution to the 15th International Geological Congress, pretoria 1929

It is our great pleasure to be associated with the 125TH Anniversary meeting of the Geological Society of America and to convey our congratulations to your organisation. many prominent American geologists and mining engineers, members of the gsa, have made important contributions to our understanding of south african geology and mineral deposits and left deep geological footprints in the country AND ELSEWHERE IN AFRICA. We WOULD LIKE TO PAY TRIBUTE TO THEM IN THE BUILD-UP to the 35TH International Conference WHICH IS TO BE HELD IN GAPE TOWN IN 2016. The last IGC in South Africa took place in Pretoria in 1929 and the event attracted a large contingent of North American geologists. We trust that the geological superlatives of South Africa and the African continent will again be a major attraction for our colleagues from North America in 2016.
