From the seminar on Mathematical Statistical Physics in Moscow State University, 1962-1994. How everything started

My generation of mathematicians became interested in theoretical physics in the fifties. Among our teachers Kolmogorov, Gelfand and Bogoljubov worked very successfully in different directions in physics (for example, see [1,2]). On the other hand, there were other examples of mathematicians (e.g. Khinchin, Menshov) who tried to learn and to work in modern theoretical physics and develop contacts with physicists, but this didn't happen.
