The cavity detection problem is extremely diverse and challenging, having a great need not only for new detection techniques but also for new interpretation methods of existing techniques. This article deals with the application of a quasi-three-dimensional inversion, a new approach to interpret electromagnetic data (EM34-3 surveys), to the data acquired over a partially known cavity system (the Carvalhal Cave in Portugal). The data from two surveys, oriented north-south and east-west, respectively, were inverted. The final models reveal the known cave associated with low conductivity values (<3 mS/m). Although the final models were strongly conditioned for the low resolution of the data set, the results show that the methodology can be useful in interpreting field data.
