Highly pathogenic avian 'flu (H5N1) continues to affect the global poultry sector, although its impact is less marked than previously as markets become more resilient through increased communication, awareness and improved bio-security. Expansion in world poultry meat production is expected to continue in most regions, led by China and Russia. Rising feed and energy costs are likely to encourage increased productivity and reduce over-production, leading to an improved supplyrbalance situation. Imports to major markets such as Russia, the EU and China are expected to increase while the US and Brazil are forecast to build on their strong export gains. Firm consumer demand in the EU, China and Brazil is expected to remain, as broiler meat remains competitively priced compared to other meats, despite rising prices.
