Sheep: Situation and Outlook

World sheep meat production was largely unchanged in 2003, according to FAO, at 7.73 million tonnes. Production in China, the world's largest producer, rose by one per cent but world trade flows were unaffected since a high percentage of China's production is consumed on the domestic market. New Zealand's production increased by five per cent last season, whilst Australian production fell by 14 per cent, EU output was only marginally less than a year ago.
