As of June 2010 the southern hemisphere lamb crop showed some signs of stability with the rate of decline in the Australian flock slowing and the New Zealand flock increasing. With a decline in production in 2009/2010, prices for both mutton and Iambhave surged to historic highs, as consumers have been forced to pay higher retail prices in order to secure product in a competitive global market.
