Severe drought in Oceania and some difficult conditions in the EU are expected to lead to a downturn in global sheep meat output this year. The decline is expected to be particularly sharp in Australia, where production is projected to be 19 per centdown in the year as a whole. To a large extent, New Zealand has managed to maintain its output in the face of dry conditions, and the industry has been somewhat boosted by the increased export demand from countries that have had to cut back on product from Australia. Australia traditionally accounts for around 40 per cent of world exports.
