Research Communications--A New Idea

Over the past twelve years, our journal, Environmental Science and Pollution Research (ESPR), has continued to evolve to meet the needs of our disciplines and our authors. In the March 2006 issue of ESPR, we introduced our Electronic Submission System (ESS) noting that 'The Age of E-mail Submission has passed - The Age of ESS Submission has arrived' [1]. To support the ESS, we are in the process of developing a 'Subject Area Framework' that will allow us to identify our available expertise of Subject Editors to guide manuscripts through the ESS, and Associate Editors to serve in the peer review capacity. These two 'process' advancements are critical to meeting the large number of international manuscripts that we are now receiving. As we have progressed, however, we have noted that there is a need for an additional type of manuscript to be published in our journal.
