摘要

This thematic paper deals with the influence ofclay microstructure and internal energy components on transportprediction in partly saturated swelling soils. The need torecognize compatibility between conceptual and numericalmodels is one of the underlying themes of the paper. The problemof soil swelling and/or swelling forces developed upon wateruptake requires careful consideration in the specification of thedriving forces responsible for water uptake.
