When planning a 3-D towed-streamer survey, there is an inevitable trade-off between geophysical objectives and operational constraints. The impact of compromise is especially critical when contemplating a 3-D seismic survey for production optimization. Such surveys involve data acquisition in obstructed areas while striving for increased resolution. Innovative utilization of a remote source vessel, continuous recording and streamer steering has enabled improved coverage, cost efficiency and risk mitigation over one of the world's largest and busiest deepwater oil fields, Brazil's Marlim complex.
