IRRIGATION FACILITIES IN HIGH RAINFALL AREA OF KONKAN

Konkan, the mythological land of Lord Parashuram is endowed by nature with bountiful of flora and fauna. This region is a narrow strip of land lying between the Arabian sea and the Sahyadri mountains. The length of the strip is about 700 km. and widthvaries from 40 to 100 km. The western precipice of Sahyadri marks its eastern boundary and the Arabian sea constitutes its western boundary; with the state of Gujarat in the north and the state of Goa in the south. The region has four rural districts viz. Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg; and the fifth is the urban area of Greater Bombay District.
