HESE QUESTIONS ARE raised again by Greenpeace's Grant Rosoman in his criticism of New Zealand industry's move towards PEFC certification in preference to FSC, and Elizabeth Howarth's Inwood item on developments (Inwood #65, p60). Having followed the FSC national standards debate (or fiasco, depending on your viewpoint) with considerable interest, I once thought FSC certification would be a significant and positive step forward. I no longer believe this and instead have become increasingly frustratedand irritated by the contradictions and hypocrisy inherent in the environmental chamber's approach to a New Zealand national forestry standard.
