Yield and Yield Components of Some Winter and Summer Rape (Brassica napus spp. oleifera L.) Cultivars in the Thrace Region

In this two-year research, four winter (Darmor, Bienvenu, Ceres and Garant) and 10 spring (Kosa, Tower, Prota, Semu 299/82 RH, Loras, Rico, Gora, Regent, Drakkar and Cesar) oilseed rape cultivars were used. Winter cultivars were grown in 1992/1993 and1993/1994, and spring cultivars were grown in 1992 and 1993. According to this study conducted under ecological condition of Thrace Region, the winter type cultivars had higher yields than spring types. It was found that Garant (2995 kg/ha) and Darmor (2547 kg/ha) winter cultivars had the highest seed yield. In winter type cultivars, plant height, number of branches and pods per main stem did not have a positive and direct effect on the yield. It could be an alternative crop to sunflower in where broomrape problem occurs however precipitation in the region is the limitation factor. It was determined that Cesar (2165 kg/ha) and Regent (2130 kg/ha) among the spring type cultivars produced the highest yield. In the spring cultivars, number of pods per main stem and 1000 seed weight were found to be having a direct and positive effect on the yield.
