Effect of Interstock and Spiral Bark Ringing on the Growth and Yield of Peach

摘要

The study was aimed to know the effects of interstock and spiral ringing on size control of peach (Primuspersica Batsch van 'Hikawahakuho' wild form) trees. 'Hikawahakuho' was used as vigorous rootstock and dwarfing rootstock 'Akatsuki' was used as interstock. Spiral ringing was made on the bark of stem 2 cm long removing a connecting strip 2 mm width as spiral shape. Shoot growth was lowest in interstock treated and spiral ringed trees and highest in the control. Total shoot length was lower in interstock treated and spiral ringed trees than the control. Tree circumference was higher in control than interstock treated trees. Fruit yield was higher in control trees than interstock treated trees. But soluble solids content was higher and acid contentwas lower in interstock treated trees. The results show that interstock and spiral ringing can be effectively used to reduce peach trees size as well as to improve fruit quality.
