Winter Vetch Asko 1 (Vicia villosa Roth.) - a New Original Variety for Green Fodder

Using the method of continuous individual selection in hybrid population ZF-89, a new winter vetch variety Asko 1 for green fodder was developed It was registered as original variety in 2000 and was included in group A of the National Varietal List. It was distributed for growing in all agricultural regions of Bulgaria Systematically, it belongs to Vicia villosa Roth, and has high frost resistance similar to that of rye This variety gives high green mass yields, with raw protein content up to 20.5 %,that of rye variety Danae being 13.1 %. By its cycle of development, it belongs to the Italian scheme Tardivo (slow growing rate in autumn): Precoche (fast growing rate in spring). The green mass is mowed for green fodder at the beginning of flowering,and for silage - after formation of the first pods. Variety Asko 1 is to be sown after 20th September in the plain regions of North and South Bulgaria, and during the first decade of September in the low mountain regions.
