摘要

Many women do home labors and a paid work outside their homes. WHO states that deficient mental health of women is due to pressure coming from several issues: multiple functions they ought to perform, gender discrimination, factors associated to poverty, hunger, malnutrition, excessive work, domestic violence and sexual abuse, among others. Men and women live under stress because of their labor and/or domestic activities and parenting roles. However, home environment has been mainly related to depression, meanwhile work stress to depression and stress. Thus, the objective of this document was to evaluate the incidence of depression and stress in single women and men, in order to analyze if there were significant differences between genders. 115 women and 70 men, who live in Mexico City or metropolitan area were evaluated. Beck Depression Inventory and Daily Stress Index tests were used. Data showed significant differences, indicating women were more depressed and stressed than men. It could be thought that female double working day is a risking factor that makes women to be under psychologically morbid conditions.
