Subjective Well-Being and Life Quality in Drug Users and Patients in Two Moments of a Psychotherapeutic Treatment

In order to evaluate the effect of interventions that were part of an institutional system of psychotherapy for drug users, a survey regarding perceptions of well-being and quality of life was administered to 261 people from 13 to 29 years old who had required a treatment for drug use. The questionnaire was previously validated with external patients and an open population, showing good reliability and validity. The survey was applied before starting treatment and again after eight treatment sessions. Results showed there was a significant reduction in depression levels, as well as in negative perceptions of self-esteem, in the frequency and intensity of perceived negative emotions, and in the indicators of drug abuse and alcohol dependency. There is an increase in factors related to perception of a satisfactory life, development of a life project, economic well-being, the possibilities of interacting with peers, and the frequency and intensity by which positive emotions are perceived.
