Validation of the Spanish Version of Underwood's Daily Spiritual Experience Scale in Mexico

This article presents the Spanish validation of Underwood's Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES-S) in a sample of Mexicans. This instrument measures the frequency of experiences of interaction with the transcendent in daily life. Similar to the English version (Underwood & Teresi, 2002), exploratory factor analysis revealed that translation reflected the original instrument, so it can be used for the same purposes. This scale was originally designed to be used in studies concerning health, but is being used with greater frequency in social sciences, for example, to examine changes in religious/spiritual experiences over time. Trying to identify whether spiritual experience is a particular component of well-being, we assessed participants' life satisfaction. Findings' implications, as well as study limitations and future research direction are discussed.
