The chemical composition, in vitro and in sacco DM degradability of healthy groundnut haulms was compared with diseased groundnut haulms (TMV-2 variety) using rumen fistulated buffaloes (B W=340±25 kg). The IVDMD values were 58.07 and 43.06% for healthy and diseased groundnut haulms. The mean values for in sacco DM degradability were 55.50 and 33.85; 60.23 and 42.65; 65.30 and 49.77; 67.08 and 52.75; and 69.95 and 55.26% at 12, 24, 36, 48 and 72 h of incubation for healthy and diseased groundnut haulms, respectively. The readily soluble fraction (a) was 47.04 and 16.74, insoluble but degradable fraction (b) was 25.38 and 40.39; and rate constant/h (c) was 0.0329 and 0.0451 for healthy and diseased groundnut haulms. Effective degradable DM of healthy and diseased groundnut haulms and with rumen outflow rate of 0.04/h was 58.50 and 38.10%, respectively. The present study indicated that diseased groundnut haulms were inferior in chemical composition, in vitro and in sacco DM degradability than healthy groundnut haulms.
