摘要

In a recent issue of International Emergency Nursing, Shirley Angland and colleagues presented a qualitative study on nurses' perception of the factors that cause violence and aggression in an Irish ED (Angland etal., 2013). Studies like this start from the consideration that violence against nurses has become an 'endemic problem' affecting nurses mostly in psychiatric and emergency settings (Gillespie et al., 2013) but also in pre-hospital emergency care (Petzall etal., 2011), in many countries (Camerino etal., 2008). Certainly, in the Emergency Department and primarily in the Triage Area, the nurses are the most vulnerable in the course of their work. The Irish authors stated that environmental and communication factors contributed to violence and aggression in the ED. We agree with them. For some years our study group has been following several lines of research to dissect the problem (Ceccagnoli and Ramacciati, 2012; Ramacciati and Ceccagnoli, 2011).
