Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI), who serves as chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, last week said he is examining legislative options for deterring economic espionage through cyberspace, including the revocation of visas for perpetrators of cyber attacks and reforming the way the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) reviews investments to prevent the theft of U.S. intellectual assets. At the same time, Rogers made clear that these legislative options will likely not be ready for inclusion in the cybersecurity bill that he introduced earlier this year, which focuses on bolstering U.S. defenses against cyber attacks through increased information sharing. He said this bill will move out of committee sometime in April, and that it is not a problem if it does not include the CFIUS provisions or other measures to deter cyber attacks.
