According to the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, 816,324,756 personal records have been breached since 2005 from 4,577 reported data breaches. Pew Research Center reports that 86% of internet users have taken steps to mask their digital footprints, and 55% percent have taken steps to avoid observation by specific people and organizations on the internet. Statistics aside, it is no secret that more of our personal information is being stored - or inadvertently released - online, and that more than ever the public is willing to take the necessary steps to ensure that they can keep their activities private.
