Advncing Patron Privacy On Vendor Systems With A Shared Understanding

A core tenet of librarianship is to protect patron activities from unwarranted and unnecessary disclosure. The third principle of the American Library Association's Code of Ethics states: "We protect each library user's right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired or transmitted." Librarians have performed this duty across time and technology, and as both progressed, the profession sought new ways to protect the privacy of patrons.
