Diurnal Response of Eggplant Shoot and Fruit Borer Adults to Sex Pheromone

Shoot and fruit borer, Leucinodes orbonalis Guen. is an important insect pest responsible for considerable yield loss in eggplant. The extent of damage ranges from 37-63% in various states of India (Dhankar, 1988). Although, there are several studieson management of L. orbonalis, still the extent of control is not satisfactory. The diurnal response of adults to sex pheromone is a pre-requisite to improve the practical utility of behavioural management of eggplant shoot and fruit borer (ESFB). The aging of pheromone chemical can be delayed by removing the septa during less activity period. In this context the adult activity of L. orbonalis was studied from 1800 h to 06.00 h on the basis of intensity of adult catches in the sex pheromone baited plastic funnel trap.
