Chandragiri- An Improved Arabica Coffee Variety

The Central Coffee Research Institute which is the headquarters of Research Department of the Coffee Board has developed an improved Arabica variety with many desirable features like semi-tall stature, high levels of field tolerance to coffee leaf rust disease, high yield coupled withhigh percentage of 'A' grade beans.This variety christened as 'Chandragiri' was released for commercial cultivation during 2007. Chandragiri is a derivative of ' Sarchimor , a cross bred genotype between Villa Sarchi (semi-dwarf mutant of Bourbon coffee) and Hibrido de Timor (HDT 832/2, aspontaneous hybrid of Arabica and Robusta). Since the release, thevariety received good response from the coffee growers and in general the field performance of Chandragiri variety is found promising in all coffee tracts.
