The Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) believes that the segregation of coffee into various grades of quality is essential to developing a standard upon which the relationship between buyer and seller can be founded. The institute has developed the Q Coffee system that aims at forging a common platform between buyers and sellers that draws attention to a vast array of specialty coffees and simultaneously creating an infrastructure that opens new windows to producers in the marketplace and enormous spaceto develop economic viability. Coffee that has been tested in the Q coffee system is officially verified as a Q Coffee and signifies a level of quality that can be safely recognized as specialty. Samples submitted to an In-Country partner (ICP) and 3 licensed Q Graders are vigorously cupped and scored. Samples that are satisfactory in accordance to the existing requisites are awarded a Q certificate. In the situation of a sample being denied, a technical report is made in order to explain why.
