In most coffee-producing countries, small growers play a vital role in coffee production. In India too, coffee cultivation is dominated by tiny, marginal and small holdings (less than 10 ha in size) which produce about 70% of the Country's coffee output. This section of producers is highly vulnerable to instability in incomes due to fluctuations in coffee prices and output. To promote equitable growth in the coffee sector, it is prudent that systems that offer better terms of trade to the small coffee growers areestablished and supported. In this direction, collectives (cooperatives, societies, associations, SHGs etc.,) of small coffee growers have been promoted by Governmental and Non-Governmental organizations in various Countries.
