摘要

While the concept has initially been a real niche for diehard do-gooder's with the products only available in so-called Third World stores now even large brands are joining the movement: notable examples being Starbucks, which has committed itself tousing only Fairtrade certificate coffee in its espresso based drinks in the UK while sugar refiner Tate & Lyle committed itself in 2008 to convert 100% of its retail branded sugar to Fairtrade. Activists and commentators have been quick to celebrate thissales growth, which has allowed socially just trade, labour, and environmental standards to be extended to hundreds of thousands of small farmers and poor rural workers throughout the developing world but it recently became evident that the concept's growth is coming along with principal challenges.
