There's a basic rule of cartography: everything must have a name. From great rivers to tiny streams, mountains to molehills, every land mass, water body, or minor pimple on the Earth's crust has been endowed with some form of identifier. The days have long gone when mapmakers could get away with scrawling "Terra incognita" or "Here be dragons" on those parts of the world they had not yet surveyed.
