Culture exchange seeks Japanese approval

A plan to help earthquake and tsunami relief in Japan by shipping millions of Japanese oyster larvae to the stricken region is still possible says Mark Wiegardt and Sue Cudd, his wife and shellfish hatchery partner. This is good news as a few weeks ago Wiegardt stated that the program had run into problems that may or may not be resolved. He also worried that the window of opportunity may swing shut. Wiegardt said the idea of donating millions of larvae to a suitable grower group in Japan originallycame from Cudd a day or two after the earthquake shook the coastal city of Sendai.
