[Fe{2,4,6-rBu_3C_6H_2)_2], a Monomerit Diaryl Complex with Two-Coordinate Iron(n)

Hornoleptic organo transition metal compounds with low coordination numbers arc rare. This is especially true for neutral complexes of the type [MR_n] (n < 4) which are expected to exhibit interesting chemical properties based on their coordina-tivelyunsaturated character. To date tctramesityldiiron serves us the only example of a structurally characterized neutral iron(II) complex with organic ligands. In the complex the metal aton is three-coordinate; the same coordination number is found in the analogous Co (II) complex and in [{Mn (mes)_2}_3] (mes=2,4,6-Me_3C_6H_2).
