Interest in the stereocontrolled synthesis of five-membered carbocycles continues to generate many exciting strategies. Among these, condensations of C_3 reagents with olefins bearing a chiral substituent have received much attention. Reports on asymmetric cyclopentannulations with an olefmic substrate and a chiral C_3 reagent are less common.
