Within the scope of our investigations on donor-stabilized dithiometaphosphoric acid halides (C_5H_5N)PS_2X (1, X = halogen) we have varied the amine donor function and/or the halogen substituents to determine the influence of these ligands on bondingand reactivity. Our attempts to synthesize the hitherto unknown iodo compound (C_5H_5N)PS_2I (1c) surprisingly resulted in the formation of the donor-stabilized [(C_5H_5N)_2-PS_2]~+ ion with a tetracoordinate phosphorus center.
