The 2-Silanorhornyl Cation: An Internally Stabilized Silyl Cation

We report evidence for the preparation of the theoretically predicted silicon analog (1) of the nonclassical 2-norbornyl cation 2. The intramolecularly n-stabilized silyl ion 3, prepared by a hydride transfer reaction by the it route from 4 at room temperature, shows no coordination to a counterion or solvent (Scheme 1).
