Herein, we report the development of charge-monitoring laser-induced acoustic desorption (CLIAD) mass spectrometry (MS) for rapid mass measurement of cells and microparticles. Different types of mononuclear cells (CD3+ lymphocytes and CD14+ monocytes) were clearly distinguished. Various mass distributions were obtained to distinguish normal T lymphocyte from CEM cancer cells derived from T lymphocytes. This methodology allows different types of cells to be distinguished on the basis of mass measurements.
