Silyl anions are widely applied as reagents in organic and inorganic chemistry.In this context,interest in alpha,omega-dia-nionic oligosilanes as precursors for cyclic and acyclic homo-and heterosilanes has been considerable.Curiously,whereas the chemistry of low-valent silicon compounds is otherwise highly developed,only two anionic compounds with a low-valent silicon backbone had been reported until recently: the cyclobutenide analogue l and the cyclobutadiene dianion analogue 2 (Scheme 1).
