Pseudo[n]polyrotaxanes and to a lesser extent poly[n]rotaxanes are now well-established features of the supramolecular scene, following pioneering work by. inter alia, the groups of Wenz. Harada. Gibson, and Stoddart. A particularly characteristic feature expected for pseudo[n]polyrotaxanes (Fig. 1). since generally the ring components cannot pass each other along the thread, is that the movement of rings is restricted by queuing as they shuffle along the central thread and eventually-escape into solution. Here we report the first unequivocally identified example of such motion in supramolecular chemistry.
