摘要

Dipolar interactions are omnipresent in chemistry and biology.It is theorized that owing to steric constraints,bond dipoles prefer an orthogonal alignment at closest contact distance.The observation of an apparently attractive orthogonal C-F-C=O interaction between a backbone C=O of the serine protease thrombin and the C_(aryl)-F dipole of a bound inhibitor initiated our program to determine experimentally the energetics of such interactions.
